Howto: Create a Customized or Managed installer package for Encryption Desktop 10.2.1 MP4 for Mac OSX 10.8
NOTE: It is no longer recommended to use 10.2.1 MP4 on Mac OS X 10.8. This was the first version that supported this OS, however due to improvements made in the product, it is recommended to use newer versions of the software. See article TECH174563 for a complete listing of all recommended versions of Symantec Encryption Desktop for Mac operating systems.
In order to support Whole Disk Encryption for Mac OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion), Symantec has released Encryption Desktop 10.2.1 MP4 .
The standalone clients for PGP 10.2.1 MP4 are available on fileconnect.symantec.com as well as a pup lite for the PGP Universal Sever. The pup file in fileconnect is called 'PGPUniversal3.2.1MP4_PGPDesktop10.2.1_PUP.zip'. This pup file is called a pup lite, which includes only the Encryption Desktop client update and does not update the PGP Universal Server base version.

Apr 06, 2020 Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) is an encryption system used for both sending encrypted emails and encrypting sensitive files. Since its invention back in 1991, PGP has become the de facto standard for email security. The popularity of PGP is based on two factors. The first is that the system was originally available as freeware, and so spread rapidly among users who wanted an extra level of security for their email messages. Mountain Lion includes a new feature called Gatekeeper which will block the installation of applications that are not approved by the Apple App store, or created by Identified Developers (to protect against malicious software). Due to this security feature that is part of Mac OSX 10.8, special steps must be followed in order to configure a Managed or Customized package which would then communicate with the PGP Universal Server.
NOTE: The Standalone installers for Encryption Desktop 10.2.1 MP4 do not need to be customized in order to install on Mac OSX 10.8.

Steps to Customize Encryption Desktop 10.2.1 MP4
1. Login to PGP Universal Server and download the customized package. Be sure to check the box 'Customize', or the package downloaded from the PGP Universal Server cannot be used.
2. The file downloaded will be called PGPDesktop.tar, extract this file.
3. A folder called 'PGP Desktop' will be extracted. Inside this folder are three items: a folder called 'pgpdesktop9', a script called 'pgpocedit_mac2, and a text file 'READMEFIRST.txt'.

./pgpocedit_mac2
6. Once the script completes, it will have built a new file called 'PGPDesktopNew.tar' in the location of the original location of the 'PGPDesktop.tar' file. For example, if the PGPDesktop.tar file was copied to the Desktop of Mac OSX, the PGPDesktopNew.tar file will be created on the Desktop as well.
7. This PGPDesktopNew.tar file, once extracted, will contain a PGP.pkg file which can now be used to install on Mac OSX 10.8.
